Day 5 Morning: YHA Grasmere

After dinner last night, I treated myself to a can of beer and some Maltesers for a cozy evening snack, along with a Mars Bar I’ve saved for today's summit. I picked them up at the YHA tuck shop where I'm staying—civilized indeed, especially compared to the draconian rules back in BC. Naturally, I seized the chance!

The Mars Bar will be my reward when I reach Grisedale Hause, the highest point of today’s walk at 1,940 feet. From there, it's downhill all the way to Patterdale, where I’m hoping my wife will scoop me up for a well-earned day off.

That, however, lies ahead. First things first—I need to retrieve my boots and socks from the drying room (fingers firmly crossed). The weather looks broken and cloudy, and with an early start at 8:30, I’m aiming to finish just after lunch... though I admit that’s probably optimistic given the state of my calves.
